May 21 is the 60th anniversary of Tibet's peaceful liberation, during which warm congratulations will be extended to various ethnic groups in Tibet, the highest tribute will be paid to various levels of cadres and ordinary people who have made long-term contributions to Tibet's unity, development and stability. Sincere appreciation will be expressed to the PLA, the armed police force as well as procurators, judicial and public security officers.

The Central People's Government and the local government of Tibet signed the "Agreement on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet" 60 years ago. The peaceful liberation of Tibet was a major part of the Chinese people's liberation cause led by the Communist Party of China (CPC).

It realized the complete reunification of the Chinese mainland, created the social conditions for adopting the regional ethnic autonomous system, which marked a great transition period for Tibet into a modern civilization, and a historical starting point for the rebirth of various ethnic groups residing in Tibet. Thereafter, various ethnic groups in Tibet led by the CPC have been following the track of unity, progress and development, marking a new epoch in the history of Tibet.

The economic and social development in ancient and mysterious Tibet over the past 60 years after its peaceful liberation was a miracle that crossed a 1,000-year history for the normal development of human society. Under the strong leadership of the CPC and with great support from China's other regions, various ethnic groups in Tibet have adhered to the socialist path and tried their best to preserve China's unification and social stability and accomplished significant changes in Tibet in terms such as politics, economy and culture.

The new phenomenon characterized by the unity, joint development and shared prosperity of all ethnic groups in Tibet is full of vitality and energy. The 60-year history is a history of the transformation for the people in Tibet from darkness to brightness, from backwardness to advancement, from poverty to prosperity and from self-seclusion to openness.

It is the strong Party leadership that ensured Tibet's remarkable social and economic progress in the past 60 years. The central government has held five Tibet work conferences, and introduced a series of polices and measures for accelerating its development and maintaining long-term peace and stability in the region. Under the Party leadership, people of all ethnic groups in Tibet are following a development path that fits both national and regional conditions. In order to maintain stable development in Tibet, China must hold high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, implement the scientific outlook on development, and properly handle the relations among economic development, social stability, people's livelihood and ecological protection based on the Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of the Three Represents.

It should take into full account both the domestic and international situation, develop far-sighted strategies and apply the Party theory and guidelines to the special conditions in Tibet. The central and local governments should make joint efforts to promote the rapid development of Tibet, give top priority to maintaining stability and firmly combat the Dalai Clique's separatist activities. The Party should properly handle religious affairs to win the hearts and minds of the Tibetan people and constantly strengthen Party building to improve its creativity, cohesion and fighting capacity.

Tibet's impressive growth in the past many years proves that it is only under the leadership of the CPC, only in the embrace of the big family of the motherland and only by firmly taking the socialist road with Chinese characteristics that Tibet can enjoy today’s prosperity and progress and an even better tomorrow.

The world is changing fast, and today's Tibet outshines its ancient glory. Let us work together for the common prosperity of all ethnic groups in China under the leadership of the CPC led by Comrade Hu Jintao, actively promote social harmony and the scientific development outlook and make greater efforts to build a united, democratic, prosperous, civilized and harmonious socialist Tibet.
