Chen, also chairman of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), said as this year marked the 10th anniversary of the signing of the two countries' good-neighborly treaty, the SRFA was to work with Russia to hold a series commemorative events.

He said the SRFA Council was also ready to promote bilateral youth exchanges and expand channels of contacts during the Council's new five-year term.

The predecessor of SRFA was the Sino-Soviet Friendship Association (SSFA), China's largest organization for non-governmental relations with foreign countries in 1950s.

The SRFA was established in 1992 on the basis of the SSFA.
