New Atletico Madrid coach Gregorio Manzano admitted this Friday that the big question on his mind was whether or not he would be able to count of the services of star striker Sergio Kun Aguero next season.

Aguero stunned the club by asking for a transfer at the end of the campaign and although Atletico would receive 45 million Euros from his sale, the departure of the Argentinean would deprive the club of its best and most emblematic player.

Aguero has been linked with most of the big clubs in Europe, but Atletico's city rivals are still favorites to sign him.

With the future of Diego Forlan, Jose Antonio Reyes and goalkeeper David de Gea, also uncertain, Manzano knows that his return to the club could be more complicated than his first season in charge back in 2003-4, when he led Atletico to a creditable seventh place finish.

"I would rather have Kun that the 45 million from his sale, but if he does go then we have agreed that the money will go toward bringing another top level player to the club. Although if in the end he decides to stay, we will welcome him like the returning prodigal son. We would have to welcome him with open arms," said Manzano in an interview with El Mundo Deportivo.

Kun's flirtation with Real Madrid has clearly upset Atletico fans, but Manzano was optimistic they would forgive the striker for wanting to leave.

"We have to be tolerant with Kun. The Atletico fans have shown that they are generous and warm people. I know they feel disappointed with Kun, but they also want the best for their team and they know how important he is. We would have to put any bad feelings aside and give him the affection that he deserves," said Manzano, who added he would also try and bring the best out of striker Diego Forlan.

Just two days ago Forlan looked to be on his way out of the club, but published on his website that he was now looking forward to working with the former Mallorca, Sevilla, Rayo and Valladolid coach.
