Mr Putin has warned Russians against forming a personality cultaround him, and his aides said he did not support those who renamed themain street in Grozny, the capital of the troubled region of Chechnya,in his honour in 2008.
But the past few years have nonetheless seen Mr Putin seek tobolster his macho image with a series of publicity stunts, such asshooting a tiger with tranquillisers, and a whale with a skin-samplergun, and collaring a polar bear。
Mr Atambayev, whose new coalition government is widely seen aspro-Russian, flew to Moscow last week for his first meeting with MrPutin as Kyrgyzstan's leader. Mr Putin scrapped a punitive fuel exciseduty and offered Kyrgyzstan a $200 million development loan。
