Brazil's transport minister Alfredo Nascimento announced resignation Wednesday following allegations that he used his position to make his son rich.

In a statement, Nascimento said he has submitted a resignation letter to President Dilma Rousseff, and that he will cooperate "spontaneously to clarify the suspicions raised" as well as authorize the disclosure of his bank accounts.

Nascimento, who is also the chairman of the Partido da Republica party, will return to the Senate where he represents the state of northern Amazon.

According to the O Globo newspaper, the Minister used his position and influence to help his son, owner of a construction firm, get rich.

Nascimento is the second cabinet minister who resigned since Rousseff took office on Jan. 1. Antonio Palocci, the president's former chief of staff, stepped down in early June amid questions raised on his personal assets, which have multiplied 20 times over the last four years.
