China says farewell to uncharted area
(Guangmin Daily)
17:05, August 10, 2011
The uncharted area in west China has been covered by the 1:50,000 scale topographic map thanks to a mapping project completed recently, and China no longer has white space on its maps, according to news from the State Council Information Office on Aug. 8.
A 1:50,000 scale topographic map can take on all roads, rivers and slightly bigger houses.
The 1:50,000 scale topographic map is China's national fundamental scale map and can provide indispensable geographic information for the country's economy construction and social development. This mapping project has been conducted for five years, said Song Chaozhi, the deputy director of National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinfomation.
