Senior leader stresses service at grassroots level

Senior Chinese leader Zhou Yongkang has urged central Henan Province to build a solid grassroots team for social management and services in order to let ordinary people "truly feel fairness and justice."
Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during his trip to Xinzheng, a county-level city under the administration of Henan provincial capital Zhengzhou, from June 13 to 14.
Xinzheng is a pilot city for the country's social management innovation drive.
"Service is management at its best, so police at the grassroots level should solve ordinary people's problems with all their hearts," Zhou said at the city's police bureau, where a meeting was being held to solicit public opinions on the local police work.
While visiting residential communities, Zhou urged the creation of a favorable living environment and the strengthening of the role of party branches and neighborhood committees in serving the people and protecting their rights.
Zhou called upon party committees and governments at various levels in the province to give priority to strengthening and innovating social management in order to boost coordinated social and economic development.
During his trip, Zhou also visited the city's service center for senior citizens, state-owned grain depot, and local residents.
He urged local authorities to put people first all the time.
