现在,你可能会想,如果中国人斥巨资建造一座规模如此宏大的车站,那么他们可能预计全天每个时段都有几百趟列车进出车站。不过这是不可能的事情,站台上只有一列火车,就是我要坐的那趟。
和僵尸题材电影中的场景类似,有好几个足球场大的车站内几乎没有任何乘客在候车。整个车站的三层楼都铺上了昂贵的高品质大理石地砖和艺术装饰材料,所有这些都被打磨的像镜子一样光亮。
广州南站真是中国人铺张的最佳例证,证明了中国那具有毁灭性的心态──只要造好了,自然会有人来。

Some day in the hazy future when the United States is a protectorate of the People's Republic of China, we'll look back on these days and laugh.
Leaning on our shovels during a brief Rejuvenation Interlude on the Greater Iowa Corn Collective, we'll say, 'Remember back when we worried so much about the mountains of hidden debt being piled up by China's state and local governments in orgies of infrastructure spending?'
We'll think back on the relics of this time, the satellite photos and Al Jazeera video tours of vast Chinese cities and developments sitting empty, infrastructure unused, waiting for the millions that will eventually flood in from the countryside and fill the echoing streets with the people of a prosperous republic.
One document of this time will be this report filed over at Zero Hedge by Tim Staermose, who offers his experience at the mammoth Guangzhou South Station, which he describes as having the ambience of Grand Central Station after a zombie apocalypse:
Now, you'd think that if they spent so much money building a station this large, they would be expecting hundreds of trains steaming in and out at all hours of the day. Not by long shot. There was only one train at the platforms. Mine.
It was the same zombie movie theme areas the size of multiple football fields with hardly any passengers standing around. And yet, throughout the entire station over all three levels was expensive, high quality marble tiles and artistic finishings, all polished to a mirrored shine.
Guangzhou South Station is truly a monument to excess, exemplifying China's ruinous 'build it and they will come' attitude.
This will all work out in the long run, just like the China bulls say it will, but do we have any idea how big the bumps along the way will be?
