BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Thursday called for authorities to use the achievements of cross-Strait relations to benefit people in both the mainland and Taiwan.
He said the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations is the "correct path" and an irreversible trend, and great changes in the relations have brought more tangible benefits to the people of both the mainland and Taiwan.
Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks while meeting with a Taiwanese delegation led by Yao Eng-chi, a Taiwanese politician.
Opposition to "Taiwan independence" and sticking to the 1992 Consensus have provided a common political foundation for both sides, said Jia, who is also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
This year marks the centennial anniversary of the 1911 Revolution led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, which overthrew the Qing Dynasty and led to the end of 2,000 years of feudal rule in China. Jia said the CPPCC National Committee will hold commemorative activities for the anniversary.
Jia said that both the mainland and Taiwan should carry on Dr. Sun's unfulfilled wish and brace for a bright future.
Yao said that his delegation has broad representation on the island and that he hopes that their exchanges can play a bigger role in promoting cross-Strait relations.
